Research & Development

We love solving clinical problems for our patients and we, therefore, involve industrial Ph.D. students, postdocs, professors, and international research teams to develop our products and find solutions for our future product portfolio. We are now participating in several short and long research projects in everything from complex biomaterials to the development of advanced equipment. Our projects have been funded in total with approximately 5.1 M EURO in research grants. To be at the forefront of clinical research, we have opened a world-leading center that actually guarantees the healing of chronic wounds. The center is located in Linköping and also conducts external research projects to ultimately contribute to what matters most, to heal wounds.

Antimicrobial Peptides - AMP

Antimicrobial Peptides (AMPs) represent a powerful class of natural defense molecules found in bacteria, fungi, plants, and animals. These peptides play a key role in the innate immune system, showing broad-spectrum activityagainst bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Their unique ability to disrupt microbial membranes makes them highly effective, while their low risk of resistance development positions them as a next-generation alternative to conventional antibiotics.

At S2Medical, we are pioneering the development of AMP-based solutions for infection control, wound healing, and dermatological health. Our Admercin™ platform utilizes AMP technology to combat antibiotic-resistant infections, providing a new approach to treating chronic and acute wounds. In cosmeceuticals, Symbiovance™ harnesses postbiotics and AMPs to balance the skin microbiome, opening new opportunities in acne treatment, skin rejuvenation, and scalp health.

Our strategy follows multiple paths to market, ensuring innovative AMP-based therapies reach hospitals, clinics, and consumer health sectors. By combining advanced R&D, regulatory expertise, and strategic partnerships, we are accelerating the commercialization of next-generation antimicrobial and skin health solutions with global impact.

Skin Grafting

Instagraft® is a single-use medical device designed to treat chronic and complicated wounds with micro-transplants from the patient’s own skin without creating any new wounds.

Instagraft® increases the donor: transplant ratio (up to 1:100)

This revolutionary device makes transplant treatment available to all patients and all healthcare professionals.

 Material Technology

Eiratex® is a registered trademark of Epiprotect AB, a company within ABENA Group. The material is based on a biosynthetic polymer of sugar molecules, originally developed by S2Medical. Its precise and controlled production results in unique properties such as superior conformability, transparency, strength, and breathability.

Epiprotect®, made from Eiratex®, is one of the very few dressings so highly conformable that it can be efficiently used to treat facial burns. It helps the body regulate moisture levels throughout all phases of the healing process, creating optimal conditions without the need for frequent dressing changes. The structure of Eiratex® mimics collagen at the nano level, giving it exceptional biocompatibility and functionality.

Eiratex® is produced by S2Medical at a in-house state-of-the-art facility with five cleanroom areas. The facility is designed to meet SFS 1993:584, LVFS 2003:11, MDR (EU) 2017/745, and harmonized standards such as ISO 13485, ensuring the highest quality and regulatory compliance.
